Going back to the beginning of 2019 I set myself a list of goals I knew I wanted to achieve this year. I know a lot of people make New Year’s Resolutions… but how many of these are followed through? Well, it’s the end of October, which means there is still a little over 2 months to achieve (almost) anything you set out to accomplish this year!!!

Goals are so fundamental in your overall personal growth and especially business growth as well. Goals help drive your vision, they help keep you motivated. They also force you to slow down and REFLECT on yourself and business from time to time. How are things going? Is there room for improvement? Where do you want to be in 2 months, 1 year, 5 years? Where do you want your business to be? What do you want to achieve, be recognized for or what do you want your business to be known for?

Goals in business can be anything from the type of service you offer, the location or area you branch out to service. Maybe your goal is to increase your brand awareness, you want your business to be more community-oriented or recognized for quality. Maybe you want to share your knowledge and start a podcast or blog more. Without a goal in mind and a plan of action it’s easy to get caught in that day to day workload of finishing client projects – trust me, I know that struggle is real. Sure, you are working hard and getting your work done… but do you feel successful and accomplished? Is what you are doing worthwhile in the long run?

A goal without a plan is just a wish! So how do you go about goal setting? Being a creative entrepreneur who thrives on organization, I have so many windows open in my brain that the only way I can stay focused somedays is by making a list. Create a list of short term tasks (projects and client work) and then create a more long term goal list. Under each goal, list out the tasks or targets you need to complete to get to that goal and work down from there. By knowing precisely what you want to achieve, you know where you have to concentrate your efforts. Setting goals gives you long-term vision and short-term motivation.

TIP: It is okay to start with the smaller goals – doing things in stages usually works better with smaller budgets!

Something else always comes up and there is never enough time. If you truly want to achieve your goals you must stay on track. Don’t set a rigid timeline for accomplishing what you want to accomplish. Trust that as long as you keep going with an open and honest mindset, you are making progress in the right direction.

Finally, review your plans, and make sure that they fit how you want to live your life.

And last but not least: It’s okay to dream BIG… just keep them in the realm of reality and make sure it is something you are truly passionate about before you start! It all starts with you believing it is possible and then set a plan to make it a reality.

(Now I am off to tackle my 2019 goals… stay tuned!)
